Things to Do

Anishinaabe Trail: Walking/biking path along E. Grand Lake Road from Whiskey Point to New Lighthouse Park.

Besser Natural Area: Hiking/biking/skiing path located south of Bell Bay in the Besser Natural Area.  For more information and a trail map click here.

Thompson Harbor State Park: Hiking/biking/skiing trails. The park entrance is located on US 23 N.  Some trails are also accessible from Old State Road.  To download a PDF trail map, click here.

The New Presque Isle Lighthouse Park: Hiking trails throughout the park and along the shores of North Bay.

Rockport State Park & Sinkholes: This area is now open to the public and contains miles of trails, and over a dozen sinkholes. Trails are still being developed and marked. The park can be accessed in Presque Isle Township through the Besser Natural Area or in Alpena Township from Rockport Road.

Spitler Shore Nature Sanctuary.  This trail is located at 7085 Kauffman Blvd in Presque Isle Township.  To download a PDF trail map, click here.

Lake Huron: Presque Isle State Harbor

Grand Lake:

• DNR launch off of E. Grand Lake Road on south side of Lake, appx. 1/4 mile from the LaFarge Quarry Entrance (bathrooms)  
• Launch off 638 on north side of Lake, just north of Sand Bay Marina. (bathrooms/pavilion/park)  
• Launch at the end of Dault Rd.  
• Launch at fork at end of Black Bass Bay Rd.
• Launch off US –23  N just north of Blue Horizon Rd. (park area w/ picnic tables).

Long Lake: 

• DNR launch at the end of Mar Ral Rd on north-northwest side of Lake.  
• Launch at end of Shore St. off of Parallel on east side of Lake  
• Launch along US-23 S. just south of Shubert Hwy.

Homestead Park – 18413-18419 Lake Esau Hwy.  Tennis court, basketball court, volleyball court, playground equipment, and bathroom. Located next to the Kauffman Homestead, Grand Lake Chapel , and District Library.

Range Light Beach – 5889-5985 E. Grand Lake Rd.  This is a public beach with a picnic area and vault restroom.
