The Planning Commission is required to make and approve a master plan as a guide for the development of the township. It must address land use and infrastructure issues, and may project 20 years or more into the future.  It can also include recommendations for implementing its proposals.
Planning Commission members must be qualified electors of the township with the exception of one who may be other than a qualified elector.  Members are appointed by the township supervisor, subject to approval by a majority vote of members of the township board. The number may be five, seven, or nine members, each with a term of three years, except with first appointment, they may be of lesser terms to effect staggered term expirations, and except for the ex-officio member, who may be appointed from the township board membership whose term will expire consistent with her or her elected term of office.
