Reel Fun Ice Fishing Tournament (February 19, 2022):
The Reel Fun Ice Fishing Tournament is held on Grand Lake. All proceeds go to help fund the Thunder Bay River Center Project. The Center is pictured as a 20,000 sq. ft. interpretive center of the Thunder Bay River Watershed.  Located within the unique 444 acre Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary, Thunder Bay River Center will serve as the thermometer of the watershed’s health. It will operate year-round as an interpretive resource for all. The Thunder Bay River Center will be a watershed and aquatics studies center focused on the 1,250 square miles of the Thunder Bay River Watershed’s resources. Its programs will interpret these natural resources for schools, the local community and tourists to show how the protection/destruction of resources impact the water and coastline of Lake Huron.  $25.00 per hole

Grand Lake Pancake Breakfast (Saturday May 28, 2022  8:00 a – 10:30sa (Memorial Day Weekend):
This family friendly event is held as one of the highly anticipated kick-off-to-summer events in Presque Isle. It is held annually at the historic Presque Isle Lodge. The event is open to the public.  Enjoy the blueberry and regular pancakes, sausage, orange juice, coffee and milk and we will be ready to serve at the Presque Isle Lodge. Come on back again to enjoy a fabulous breakfast and the beginning of another great season. Breakfast charge is $7.00 for adults, $3.00 for children.

Light Up the Sky 5k Run/Walk (Memorial Day Weekend):
The 5k Run/Walk is always held the last Sunday in May.  The event is held as a fundraiser for the Presque Isle Harbor Fireworks.  Come help raise money for the fireworks.  For more information, contact

Pie and Game Night  PIE & GAME NIGHT – JUNE 22 – 7:00 pm until everyone is happy.  It begins with cards or games you bring along to play with your friends or family. Bring a pie or treat to share. Held at the Presque Isle Lodge. This fun filled evening of cards, games…and PIE is held annually at the Presque Isle Lodge. Sure to be a good time had by all!

Presque Isle Harbor Wooden Boat Show (Third Saturday in June)
The Wooden Boat Show is held the third Saturday in June at the Presque Isle Harbor. Events kick off Friday with a participant luncheon, boat cruise, and reception, and continue into Saturday with the official launch and opening ceremony. Food vendors, arts and crafts, and model boat displays are also part of the event.

Independence Day  Parade, Mole Music Story Book Walk and Fireworks (Saturday July 2, 2022)
The annual Independence Day celebration kicks off with a parade at the New Lighthouse grounds.  The parade will line up at 10:15 a.m. and starts at 10:30 a.m. with live music to keep you entertained until noon.   Bring the entire family for The Mole Music Story Book Walk on the New Lighthouse grounds and trail.   The day concludes with fireworks at the Harbor at dusk.  Come spend the day in Presque Isle where you can enjoy biking, swimming, climbing the lighthouses, playing at the parks, and a spectacular fireworks show!

Thunder Bay Maritime Festival (4th of July):
Bring the whole family to this free annual community event hosted by the Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Since 2001 the sanctuary has encouraged thousands of visitors to delve deeper into the maritime world at this celebration of all things nautical. Tour tall ships, research vessels, and fishing boats docked along the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Trail.  Enjoy live music on the main stage, kids games and crafts, see the small boat workshop, taste some local whitefish, explore the shipwreck century exhibits and more!

Concerts at the New Lighthouse

Ice Cream Social  JULY 9, 6:00 – 7:30 Homestead Park. Remember – delicious ice cream with a variety of toppings is nutritious and represents summertime! The price of the healthy serving is $3.00 per person. And new this year is the Taste of Grand Lake.  Tasty homemade baked goods donated by members are raffled off. Selection includes pies, breads, cakes, cookies and more!  Tables and chairs will be set up on the park lawn for your seating comfort

Grand Lake Fishing Derby  July 9, 2022  Grand Lake Association sponsored.
One of the Grand Lake Sportsman’s Club’s annual fishing derbies. Headquarters are located at the north end of Grand Lake at the pavilion. Cash and prizes are awarded for various categories.  Join the fun!!!

CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT! JULY 16, 10:00 – 1:00 Homestead Park

The cornhole tournament was pretty popular last year so let’s try it again.  Even if you’ve never played cornhole, grab a partner and head over to Homestead Park!  Bring your own food and drink. Nautical Festival (end of July):
The Nautical Festival is held annually in Rogers City the last weekend in July through the first week of August. The Queen’s Pageant is held on Friday evening, and the festival events begin with the kick off dinner on Tuesday evening. Events and festivities continue throughout the week and conclude on Sunday with fireworks at dusk.

Garage Sale Days JULY 29 & 30, 10:00 – 4:00 The GLA has been hosting this event for 30 years. This is typically held on the last Friday and Saturday of July. When you register, your address is included on the map. If you wish to participate and are not a GLA member, a $10 donation (or a single membership) is requested to help defer the cost of advertising. Maps are available after 5:00 pm Thursday evening at the Birch Hill Store, the Portage Store, the PI Library, Woody’s Grand Lake and PI Harbor Assn Clubhouse.

Youth Sailing Classes
Grand Lake Sailing promotes sailing for persons in the Grand Lake Michigan area of Presque Isle County. We currently offer a week of youth sailing lessons in the summer on Grand Lake. We base our operation at the Grand Lake Beach House of Presque Isle Harbor Association.

Sailing Regatta GRAND LAKE SAILING REGATTAS – JULY 2 & AUGUST 6 – Sailboats of all types gather at the south end of Grand Island at 1:30. There will be two buoys set up to mark the starting line. Boats will hear a 5-minute gun and a starting gun and should begin the race at the starting gun by crossing the starting line between the two buoys. Race counterclockwise around Grand Island, 1 lap, with the finish line being marked by two buoys at the south end of the channel between Grand Island and the mainland.

LAFARGE/STONEPORT 5K QUARRY RUN/WALK – AUGUST 14, 2021 AT 9:30 A.M.   We are pleased to announce the 7th Annual Stoneport 5K run/walk on August 14, 2021 at 9:30 a.m.  This event takes place at the Lafarge Presque Isle Quarry and provides participants with breathtaking views, as the race route takes you down more than one-hundred feet to the quarry floor.  Whether you choose to make the event a leisurely family stroll or push the limits, it is sure to be a fun-filled experience.  This year’s event will be different, as we will be having a hybrid race where runners can run at Lafarge or at their own location and submit their times.  Separate awards will be given for competitors competing on site versus hybrid runners.  All funds raised by this event are being donated to the Mid-Michigan Hospital Foundation Alpena Cancer Center.  Click on the highlighted  LAFARGE 5K Quarry Run/Walk Entry Form for your entry form!  LAFARGE 5K QUARRY RUN/WALK ENTRY FORM

Arts & Crafts Show ( Saturday, August 13, 2022):
The annual Arts and Crafts show is typically held the second Saturday in August at the New Lighthouse Park grounds. Vendors from all over the State come to display and share their talents. There is a wide variety of crafts to view as well as kettle corn, food vendors, and entertainment. The lighthouse gift shop and tower are also open for the day.

September 4, 2021 – Pancake breakfast sponsored by the Grand Lake Association will be from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.   The pancake breakfast will be held at the Presque Isle Lodge at 8211 E. Grand Lake Road, Presque Isle, MI  49777

September 5, 2021 – Rededication of the 140 year-old Johnny Kauffman Homestead.  The festivities are on September 5, 2021 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Tickets are $10.00 each and food, beverages and raffles will be available.  This event is sponsored by the Grand Lake Association.  Hope to see you there at this important Presque Isle Township landmark!

Alpena County Fair (end of August):
The Alpena County Fair is in it’s 137th year (in 2011). There is a Queen’s Pageant, animal shows, horse pulls, live concerts and entertainment, amusement rides and games, karaoke contests, a bump ‘n run, auctions….and more!

POKER RUN ON GRAND LAKE – AUGUST 20, 5:00 – 7:00  Sponsored by the Grand Lake Association.
W-E-E-E-‘R-E B-A-A-A-C-K! And jokers are still wild! Food, refreshments, and

There is a limit of 23 boats and cost is $15.00 per person in attendance. Maps to the 7 docks will be available at P.I.H.A. between 2pm-4pm, 8/21. Presque Isle County Fair (Labor Day weekend):
The Presque Isle County Fair was started by the Presque Isle County Agricultural Mechanical Society and was first held on September 25 and 26, 1901 in Millersburg. Sometime around 1932 the fair moved to Onaway. After a stop at Posen as a 4-H fair and the Moltke Township Hall where it was held for about eight years, the year 2000 saw plans made to move the fair back to Millersburg. The first fair back at its original location was held in 2001. The fair date was recently changed from the end of June to the Labor Day weekend. Posen Potato Festival (weekend after Labor Day):
The Potato Festival is held annually in the village of Posen the weekend after Labor Day. Events kick off Friday evening and run through Sunday night.  There is live entertainment at the Country Western Pavilion and Polka Pavilion, Arts & Crafts, vendors, a bump ‘n run, a grand parade, potato pancake dinner (any many more tributes to the potato and polish heritage), a polish polka mass, and much, much more!  The popular Chili Cookoff  is part of the Autumn Lights Festival and invites participants to enter their delicious chili.   COVID precautions will be in place in serving the chili for taste testing.  Everyone is invited to make their own tasty chili to enter the Cook-off!
